The Ten Year Chat

In his first solo evening since 1987, choreographer/writer/performer David Roussève celebrated the 10th anniversary of his (then) New York-based dance/theater company REALITY by going it alone.  In a range of solos pulled from evening-length group works, Roussève fuses the chatting body, the dancing body, and the naked body to create a sublimely self-effacing terrain that explodes issues of race, gender and AIDS. With equal parts humor and grit, The Ten Year Chat includes excerpts from all three series of works Roussève created for REALITY, including the wildly popular Creole Series (1990-92), the Dream Series (1993-95), and the Love Series (1996-99).  In a vibrant vocabulary that ranges from pop to classical, the evening deftly combines the choreographer’s earliest work, most recent work, and his new work.  Roussève was awarded the Lester Horton (LA Dance) Award for “Best Performance” 2000-01 for The Ten Year Chat.  The work premiered at Los Angeles’s Getty Center prior to touring the U.S. as well as to the UK and Brazil.  For the premiere performance, Chat was listed as one of the ten best dance performances of the year by LA Weekly.
